By the end of this lesson, students will:

Lesson Structure (45 Minutes)

1. Warm-Up Activity (10 Minutes) - "Count and Move"

Objective: Get students engaged through interactive movement.

🟠 Teacher plays music with a steady beat.
🟠 Students count out loud while performing movements (e.g., jump 5 times, spin 3 times, tap shoulders 7 times).
🟠 Teacher pauses the music and asks, “What number were we on?” encouraging class participation.

👉 Differentiation: If students need support, use a number chart to guide them visually.

2. Hands-On Counting Activity (15 Minutes) - "Treasure Hunt Counting"

Objective: Reinforce counting by matching numbers to objects.

🔹 The teacher hides small treasures (plastic coins, buttons, or pom-poms) around the room.
🔹 Each student gets a number card (1-10) and must find that exact number of treasures.
🔹 Once they have their treasures, students count them aloud to a partner and write the number on a mini whiteboard.

👉 Challenge: Advanced students can count objects beyond 10 or group items into sets of 5s.

3. Interactive Group Game (10 Minutes) - "Mystery Bag Counting"

Objective: Strengthen students’ ability to count objects without seeing them.

🔵 Teacher places small objects (beans, toy animals, cubes) inside a paper bag.
🔵 Students reach in (without looking) and take out a handful.
🔵 They place the objects on the table, count them aloud, and show the corresponding number using their fingers.
🔵 The class confirms if the count is correct.

👉 Modification: For an extra challenge, students estimate the number before counting.

4. Wrap-Up & Exit Ticket (10 Minutes) - "Show Me Five"

Objective: Check for understanding and reinforce learning.

🟢 Teacher calls out a number (1-10).
🟢 Students must:

• Show the number on their fingers.
• Find and point to that number on the classroom number chart.
• Say the number in a full sentence: “I have five fingers up.”
  🟢 Teacher observes and provides quick corrections if needed.

🎉 Final Reflection: “What was your favourite counting activity today?”
