Lesson Outline

Introduction (10 minutes)

1. Warm-Up Activity:

   • Write key story elements (beginning, middle, end) on the board.

2. Objective Sharing:

   • Explain that today, students will learn how to write a personal narrative, a story about their own life. Highlight the excitement of sharing personal experiences as stories.

Instruction (15 minutes)

1. Reading and Analysis:

   • Distribute printed copies of a short, engaging personal narrative.
   • Read aloud as a class.

2. Discussion:

   • Identify the key features of the narrative: Who? What? Where? When? Why?
   • Point out how the author describes thoughts and feelings.

3. Structure Overview:

   • Explain the 'story mountain' structure: introduction (who, when, where), build-up (what happened), climax (the main event), resolution (conclusion).
   • Illustrate on the board using simple icons for each part of the narrative structure.

Activities (25 minutes)

1. Brainstorming and Planning: (10 minutes)

   • Provide students with a graphic organizer to plan their stories.
   • Ask students to think of a memorable event in their life and jot down ideas under each story element.

2. Story Cubes Activity: (5 minutes)

   • Use colourful story cubes to inspire creativity and add unexpected twists.
   • Let students roll the cubes and incorporate one element from the cube into their story.

3. Writing Time: (10 minutes)

   • Encourage students to start drafting their personal narrative using their storyline from the organizer.
   • Float around the room, offering guidance and feedback.

Conclusion (10 minutes)

1. Sharing and Feedback:

   • Allow a few students to voluntarily share their drafts with the class.
   • Facilitate positive feedback sessions by encouraging classmates to share what they liked about the story.

2. Wrap-Up and Homework:

   • Recap the key elements of a personal narrative.
   • Assign completing the narrative as homework, asking them to focus on adding more descriptive details and emotions.
