Objectives

Materials Needed

• Interactive whiteboard
• Notebooks and pencils
• Index cards
• Story cubes or dice with images
• Timer
• Chart paper

Introduction (5 minutes)

1. Warm-Up Activity: Start with a quick verbal activity. Ask students to think of their favorite story or movie. Call on a few volunteers to briefly share why they enjoy it.
2. Objective Introduction: Explain the goal of today's lesson is to create their own unique story using their imagination and some fun tools.

Interactive Writing Activity (15 minutes)

Step 1: Setting the Stage (5 minutes)

• Procedure:
  1. Split the class into small groups of 3-4 students.
  2. Give each group a set of story cubes/dice with images. Explain that these will help them come up with ideas for their stories.
  3. Each group should roll the dice and choose two images to base their story on.
  4. Chart paper will be used for groups to write down initial ideas.

Step 2: Developing Characters (5 minutes)

• Procedure:
  1. Distribute index cards to each group, two cards per group.
  2. Ask each group to create two characters based on the images they rolled.
  3. Encourage creativity by asking students to describe characteristics, such as what the characters enjoy doing, their favourite foods, or unique traits.
  4. Quick sharing: Each group to share brief descriptions of their characters with the class.

Step 3: Plot & Setting (5 minutes)

• Procedure:
  1. Provide each group 5 minutes to brainstorm and write a quick plot using their characters and initial ideas from the dice-roll activity.
  2. Each group must define the setting: Where and when does the story take place?
  3. Assist students with additional prompts if needed (e.g., "What problem do the characters face? How do they solve it?").

Conclusion (5 minutes)

1. Sharing: Each group chooses a spokesperson to present their story ideas to the class in 1-2 minutes.
2. Reflection: Ask students what they found most fun or challenging about the activity.
3. Homework Assignment: Encourage students to continue their stories at home, refining their narratives and bringing them back next class for further development or sharing.

Assessment

• Formative: Observe student participation and engagement during group activities. Take note of students' ability to brainstorm and collaborate.
• Summative: Collect and review students' notes and initial story outlines to provide feedback on their development of narrative skills.

Extension Activities

• Illustration: Have students bring their stories to life with drawings.
• Story Exchange: Pairs of groups exchange stories and provide constructive feedback to each other.
• Publishing: Create a class book compiling each group's final stories, encouraging pride in their creations.
