Lesson Structure

Introduction (10 minutes)

  1. Warm-Up Activity
    • Dynamic Stretching: Lead the students in a 5-minute dynamic stretching routine to prepare their bodies for physical activity.

  2. Discussion: Briefly talk about what physical health is and why it is important:

Core Activity (40 minutes)

  1. Station Rotation (30 minutes)

    • Divide students into 4 groups of 5. Have them rotate through four different stations, spending 7 minutes at each station. Each station focuses on a different aspect of physical fitness:

    Station 1: Cardio and Endurance

    • Activities: Jump Rope, High Knees, and Shuttle Runs.
    • Objective: Improve cardiovascular fitness and endurance.

    Station 2: Strength and Conditioning

    • Activities: Bodyweight Exercises (Push-ups, Squats, Lunges).
    • Objective: Build muscle strength and endurance.

    Station 3: Flexibility and Balance

    • Activities: Yoga Poses (Tree Pose, Warrior Pose, Downward Dog).
    • Objective: Enhance flexibility and balance.

    Station 4: Fitness Planning

    • Activity: Students use the pre-printed personal fitness plan templates to create their own fitness goals and plans.
    • Objective: Learn how to set realistic fitness goals and create a plan to achieve them.
  2. Group Discussion and Reflection (10 minutes)

    • Lead a group discussion on the different exercises and activities they participated in.
    • Questions to Ask:
      • “Which station did you find the most challenging?”
      • “How can you incorporate these activities into your daily routine?”
      • “What are some challenges you might face when sticking to a fitness plan?”

Cool Down (10 minutes)

  1. Static Stretching
    • Lead the students in a 5-minute static stretching routine to cool down their bodies.
      • Hamstring Stretch
      • Quadricep Stretch
      • Shoulder Stretch
  2. Guided Reflection:
    • Students will take 5 minutes to write down a reflection on their fitness template about what they learned today and how they plan to stay physically active.

Assessment

  • Formative Assessment: Observe and provide feedback on students' participation and effort at each station.
  • Summative Assessment: Collect and review students' personal fitness plans to ensure they have set realistic goals and created a comprehensive plan.

Homework

  • Have students use their personal fitness plans at home and keep a log of their daily physical activities for a week. They will share their progress in the next class.
