Lesson Objectives

Lesson Structure

Activity 1: Music Theory & Notation (10 minutes)

1. Theory Basics

   • Introduce the concept of pitch using a projector. Demonstrate high and low sounds with both voice and piano app.

2. Notation Introduction

   • Show music notation flashcards. Explain what notes are. Introduce the treble clef as a way to organize music on a staff.

Activity 2: Ukulele Session (10 minutes)

1. Ukulele Basics

   • Distribute 45 ukuleles among groups of 4 students to promote collaboration.
   • Explain the parts of the ukulele.

2. Play a Simple Chord

   • Demonstrate how to hold the ukulele and strum an open chord (C major).

Activity 3: Recorder Ensemble (10 minutes)

1. Recorder Basics

   • Guide students in how to hold and produce sound on a recorder.

2. Playing Simple Rhythms

   • Teach students a simple four-beat rhythm using a B note. Practice together.

Activity 4: Solfege Singing (5 minutes)

1. Introduction to Solfege

   • Introduce the solfege scale using hand signs.

2. Singing Activity

   • Lead the class in singing "Do-Re-Mi" using solfege hand signs to internalize melodic movement.
