Lesson Steps

Introduction (5 minutes)

   Greet the class and share the lesson objective: "Today, we're going to have a spooky exploration of Halloween words! You'll be master storytellers and enhance your writing skills."

2. Preparation
   Instruct students to take out their ELA notebooks and spelling lists from their binders. Ensure they have a pencil ready.

Main Activity (30 minutes)

1. Writing Date
   Ask students to open their notebooks and write today's date at the top of the page.

2. Instructions for Sentence Writing
   Explain to the students that they will choose words from their Halloween vocabulary list and write two creative sentences for each word. Encourage them to incorporate imagination and detail. Example words might include "pumpkin," "witch," "ghost," "costume," etc.

3. Spelling Reminder
   Remind students to pay close attention to the spelling. This is a great opportunity to use their spelling list as a tool to double-check their work.

4. Independent Work
   Allow students to begin working on their sentences. Circulate around the classroom to offer assistance and answer any questions.

5. Time Management
   Set a gentle reminder every 10 minutes to help students pace their work appropriately.

Conclusion (5 minutes)

1. Sharing
   Invite a few students to share their favourite sentences with the class. This encourages them to take pride in their creative writing.

2. Wrap-Up
   Congratulate students for their hard work and creativity. Reinforce the skills they've practiced: vocabulary usage, sentence construction, and spelling.

3. Early Finishers
   Encourage early finishers to quietly read a book of their choice from the classroom library.
