Materials

• Cones or markers to define play areas
• Bean bags or soft balls
• Hula hoops
• Coloured wristbands or pinnies for group identification

Warm-Up (5 Minutes)

Begin with a simple warm-up to energize students and prepare them for activity.

Activity: Follow the Leader

1. Instructions: Form a circle. The teacher leads movements such as jumping jacks, side steps, and arm circles, which students follow.
2. Goal: Focus on staying synchronised as a group by watching and listening to the leader.
3. Feedback: Praise students for matching the leader’s pace and movements, highlighting how working together makes the task fun and effective.

Main Activity (30 Minutes)

Activity: The Cooperation Circuit

Divide the class into four groups of 5-6 students (use wristbands or pinnies to distinguish groups). There will be four stations, and each group rotates every 7 minutes, with 1 minute transition time.

Station 1: Balance the Beam

• Setup: Line a series of cones to represent a beam.
• Objective: In pairs, walk alongside the 'beam', ensuring no one falls off.
• Skill Focus: Balance and support.
• Cooperation Element: Pairs encourage each other to complete the course and help maintain balance if one partner wobbles.

Station 2: Bean Bag Relay

• Setup: Set up two cones about 10 metres apart.
• Objective: As a team, pass the bean bag while jogging between cones.
• Skill Focus: Hand-eye coordination.
• Cooperation Element: Develop strategies to pass smoothly without dropping, ensuring everyone has a chance to participate.

Station 3: Hula Hoop Pass

• Setup: Use one large hula hoop.
• Objective: The group holds hands and must pass the hula hoop over and under each member without letting go of hands.
• Skill Focus: Flexibility and agility.
• Cooperation Element: Encourage communication to find the most efficient way to pass the hoop.

Station 4: Circle Toss

• Setup: Stand in a circle with a soft ball.
• Objective: Toss the ball across the circle and say the name of the receiving student.
• Skill Focus: Throwing and spatial awareness.
• Cooperation Element: Help each other remember names and catch the ball, reinforcing that teamwork is about support.

Cool-Down and Reflection (5 Minutes)

Stretch and Share

• Gather students in a seated circle.
• Lead gentle stretches to cool down.
• Ask each student to share one compliment about a teammate, focusing on how they helped the group succeed.

Assessment

• Observe students’ ability to communicate and work together during activities.
• Listen to reflections for insights into the social dynamics and cooperative skills developed.
• Use these observations to plan future cooperative-based lessons, reinforcing these essential life skills.
