Procedure

Introduction (5 minutes)

• Engage Students: Begin with a question: "What events might lead different countries to war?" Discuss briefly to gauge prior knowledge.
• Set Context: Provide a brief overview of the Seven Years' War, explaining it was a global conflict between 1756-1763, often called the first "world war," affecting Europe, North America, and parts of Asia and Africa.

Main Activity (20 minutes)

A. Interactive Timeline (10 minutes)

1. Divide the Class: Split students into small groups (3-4 students each).
2. Distribute Timeline Cards: Each group receives timeline cards depicting significant events of the Seven Years' War.
3. Create the Timeline: Groups collaborate to place their cards in chronological order on the board, filling in missing events with teacher guidance.
4. Discuss Key Events: Highlight the Battle of Québec, the Treaty of Paris (1763), and how the war influenced future American events.

B. Role-Playing Activity (10 minutes)

1. Assign Character Cards: Each group receives a character card, such as a historical figure or nation (e.g., George Washington, British, French, Indigenous groups).
2. Research & Present: Using tablets or prepared printouts, groups conduct quick research on the role and perspective of their character/nation in the war.
3. Presentation: Groups present their findings in 1-2 minute "role-play" scenarios, explaining their stake and experience in the war.

Conclusion (5 minutes)

• Reflect: Discuss as a class the impact of the conflict on North America, particularly how it led to shifting allegiances and set the stage for independence movements.
• Summary Questions: Hand out the summary sheet with questions. Have students answer these as a ticket out the door.
