NCEA Level 2 — Achievement Standards & Resources
NCEA Level 2 is the second of the three NCEA qualifications, typically sat in Year 12. It's the most commonly-cited school-leaver qualification in Aotearoa New Zealand — many trade, polytech and entry-level pathways list Level 2 as the minimum. Like Level 1, it's built from individual achievement and unit standards across each subject, with a mix of internal assessment during the year and external exams in November.

To gain NCEA Level 2, students accumulate credits at Level 2 (some can come from Level 1 or Level 3, within NZQA's rules), and must also satisfy the literacy and numeracy requirements — these transfer up from Level 1, so most students meet them before Year 12. Strong Level 2 candidates often aim for a course endorsement (Merit or Excellence in a specific subject) or an overall certificate endorsement.
