Lesson Plan

Introduction (10 minutes)

1. Warm-Up Discussion:
   Begin by asking students to share what they know about cover letters. Have they written one before? What is its purpose? Note responses on the board.

2. Learning Objectives:

Instruction (20 minutes)

3. Formal Cover Letter Structure:

   • Use the projector to outline and explain the standard structure:
     • Header: Contact information
     • Salutation: Addressing the employer
     • Opening Paragraph: Introduction and purpose
     • Middle Paragraphs: Skills, experience, and alignment with the company
     • Closing Paragraph: Conclusion and call to action
     • Signature

Guided Practice (15 minutes)

1. Writing Exercise:

   • Students begin drafting their own cover letter for a hypothetical job of their choice.
   • Encourage them to focus on personalizing the content to reflect their skills and the role.

2. Peer Review:

   • Pair students to exchange drafts and give feedback using the assessment rubric provided.
