Year 6 Handwriting Lesson Plan

Subject: Language Arts

Curriculum Area: English – Writing, Level 4-5

Time: 20 minutes

Class Size: 28 students

Lesson Objective:

• Students will practice cursive handwriting using a New Zealand themed passage.

Materials Needed:

• Printed copies of a New Zealand themed passage in cursive writing
• Lined paper
• Pencils or pens
• Whiteboard and markers

Lesson Outline:

1. Introduction (5 minutes):

   • Start the lesson by discussing the importance of good handwriting skills for clear communication.
   • Introduce the New Zealand themed passage that students will be practicing.

2. Warm-Up Activity (3 minutes):

   • Have students do a quick finger warm-up exercise by tracing cursive letters in the air.

3. Cursive Writing Practice (10 minutes):

   • Distribute the printed copies of the New Zealand themed passage to each student.
   • Display the passage on the whiteboard for reference.
   • Guide students through writing the passage in cursive on their lined paper.

4. Peer Review (2 minutes):

   • Pair students up to review each other's handwriting.
   • Encourage constructive feedback and positive reinforcement.

5. Wrap Up (2 minutes):

   • Ask students to share one thing they found challenging and one thing they enjoyed about the cursive practice.
