Lesson structure (50 minutes)

  1. 0–5 min · Entry routine and safety focus. Teacher checks that students are wearing required personal protective equipment, places students in safe working pairs, and opens the hook and learning-intention slides. Students sit or stand at the designated briefing area, inspect their work plan, and answer: “What could make a finger joint unsafe or inaccurate?”

  4. 20–35 min · Supervised scrap practice. Teacher allocates tools and timber, supervises one pair at a time, and pauses work if a safety rule or technique is not followed. Students work in pairs: one cuts while the other checks the marked line and observes safety, then they swap when directed. Each student completes at least one practice cut and records whether the cut is accurate, too deep, too shallow, or angled on the practice-record section.

  5. 35–45 min · Begin the box joints. Teacher checks each student’s setup before cutting begins, confirms the correct waste areas, and authorises students individually to cut their box components. Students complete the final questions on the reflection and next-step section: “What went well?”, “What is one accuracy issue?”, and “What will I do differently next time?” Students return tools, clear waste safely, and report any damaged equipment.
