I want to create an integrated science and maths lesson plan, that goes over two lessons of 45 minutes per lesson. The three big ideas are Earth's rotation, Timezone and the night and day cycle. Link to Achievement objectives in Nature of Science: Understanding about Science Appreciate that science is a way of explaining the world, and that science knowledge changes over time. And Planet Earth and Beyond: Astronomical systems: Investigate the components of the solar system and develop an appreciation for the distances between them. In Maths lin to Number and Algebra: Number strategies and knowledge, AO: Use a range of multiplicative strategies when operating on whole numbers or Geometry and Measurement: Measurement AO at level 3/4 of the NZ Curriculum. Include learning activities such as Earth Rotation simulation, time zone mapping based on real world scenarios and creating a diagram to represent the earths rotation. Include assessment ideas.
