Lesson Plan

Introduction (5 minutes)

1. Welcome and Greeting

   • Begin with a warm welcome to the students.
   • Sing the 'Welcome Song' to create a joyful atmosphere.

2. Objective Introduction

   • Briefly explain the focus of the lesson: families and how to handle books.
   • Ask questions like, "Who helps you at home?" to engage initial thoughts.

Activity 1: Family Roles Discussion (10 minutes)

1. Circle Time Discussion

   • Gather students in a circle on the carpet.
   • Introduce a family-themed puppet or soft toy.
   • Use the puppet to discuss different family members and their roles, e.g., "Mum cooks dinner," "Dad fixes things," etc.

2. Interactive Engagement

   • Ask the children to take turns sharing what their family members do.
   • Encourage them to mimic or act out these roles (e.g., pretending to cook or fix).

3. Role-play Activity

   • Invite a few children to role-play different family members.
   • The rest of the class can guess which family member they are acting out.

Activity 2: Book Handling Skills (10 minutes)

1. Demonstration

   • Show a large picture book to the class.
   • Demonstrate holding the book and opening it from right to left.
   • Emphasise the importance of being gentle with books.

2. Guided Practice

   • Distribute picture books to pairs of students.
   • Guide them to practice opening the book from right to left.
   • Walk around to provide assistance and encourage proper handling.

Conclusion (5 minutes)

1. Review and Reflection

   • Gather the students back to the circle.
   • Quickly go over the roles discussed earlier. "What does mum usually do at home?" etc.
   • Ask students to demonstrate opening an imaginary book.

2. Closing Activity

   • Sing a short "Goodbye Family Book" song, incorporating family roles and care of books.

3. Feedback

   • Encourage students to share what they enjoyed most in the lesson.
   • Provide positive reinforcement, e.g., "I loved how gently you turned the pages!"
