Lesson structure (45 minutes)

  1. 0–5 min · Reconnect and hook. Teacher displays a picture of two differently shaped pieces and asks, “Could both of these be one-half?” using the opening comparison slide; students silently decide, show thumbs up or down, then explain their first thought to a partner.

  2. 5–11 min · Revisit key ideas. Teacher models a whole divided into two equal parts and a whole divided into four equal parts, then contrasts these with unequal pieces using the halves, quarters and equal-parts slides.
