Lesson Plan

Introduction (10 minutes)

Main Activity (30 minutes)

1. Whole Class Instruction (10 minutes):

   • Introduce today's topics: Intervals, Rays, and Angles.
   • Explain each concept with visual aids:
     • Interval: The distance between two points.
     • Ray: A line with a single endpoint that extends infinitely in one direction.
     • Angle: Formed by two rays that share a common endpoint.
   • Illustrate each definition on the whiteboard, showing real-life examples where these are applicable (e.g., clock hands as rays, corner of a book as an angle).

2. Group Work (15 minutes):

   • Divide the class into groups of three.
   • Distribute geometry toolkits and worksheets which contain different scenarios/questions requiring the identification and usage of intervals, rays, and angles.
   • Circulate the room to provide support, catering to different ability groups:
     • For higher ability groups: Include challenges like measuring and drawing precise angles.
     • For lower ability groups: Focus on identifying rays and intervals in picture-based scenarios.

3. Independent Practice (5 minutes):

   • Prompt students to independently complete one complex problem from the worksheet which combines the use of intervals, rays, and angles.

Conclusion (10 minutes)

1. Review and Reflect:

   • Invite students to share their answers and methods.
   • Discuss different approaches and clarify any misunderstandings.

2. Exit Ticket:

   • Each student writes down one thing they learned about rays and one question they still have on a sticky note.
