Lesson structure (60 minutes)

  1. 0–7 min · Museum hook and purpose. Teacher uses the rehearsal checklist and visitor questions to prompt each group: “What is your habitat?”, “What lives there?”, “What does it need?”, and “How does a feature or behaviour help survival?” Students practise a short presentation, choose speaking roles, check that labels are large and readable, and make one improvement. Offer a quiet rehearsal space for students who need reduced stimulation.

  5. 36–51 min · Museum rotations. Teacher opens the museum rotation instructions and assigns half the group as presenters and half as visitors; after seven minutes, students swap roles and then visit a second station if time allows. Presenters explain their exhibit using the sentence frame. Visitors listen, ask one question, and record or draw one new learning on the back of the worksheet. The teacher circulates, prompting cause-and-effect explanations and noting evidence of understanding.

  6. 51–57 min · Gallery reflection. Students return to their own station. Teacher displays the reflection prompts: “What did our habitat provide?” and “Which organism was especially well suited to its habitat?” Groups share one strong explanation and one change they would make next time. Celebrate clear scientific thinking, careful listening and inclusive teamwork.

  7. 57–60 min · Exit check. Students complete the final box on the habitat museum exhibit planner by drawing or writing one organism and completing: “It survives in its habitat because…” Collect sheets as individual evidence, including contributions from students who communicated through drawing, pointing or oral response.
