- Whakamahia he maramataka rangi kei te pātu – whakaatu i te tae mai o te Takurua.
- Waiata: "Tipu, tipu, Matariki" (He waiata māmā: ki te pārekareka me ngā mahi tīnana)
- Tohungia ngā ingoa o ngā whetū e toru i te tuatahi – Matariki, Pōhutukawa, Waitī.
- Tāutuhia me ngā tohu mai i te rangi (magic light stars inside dark cloth box).
- Whakawhiti tohutohu mā te ringa (gesture) me te tohu atu.
✔ Differentiation:
- Ākonga non-verbal: Whakamahia te tohu ā-ringa ki te whakaatu i ngā whetū - ka whiwhi i ngā rākau papa hei tohu i ngā ingoa.
- Ākonga takawaenga: Ka whiwhi i ngā kāri kupu hei tohu, ka pānui hautai hoki.
- Ākonga pānui-pōturi: Ngā kuputohi me ngā pikitia nui, he oro māmā, he tae rerekē ki te tautoko i te pānui.

Activity 1: Pepa Whetū (30 mins)
- Ngā mahi: Waihanga whetū mā te tapahi pepa whetū, tā ki te pene arā atu anō.
- Ka hiahia ngā ākonga ki te whiriwhiri i tētahi whetū hei hanga, ka pānui i te ingoa.
- Ka tuhi i te whetū ki runga pepa me te tā i te tae e hāngai ana.
Differentiation
- Ākonga matua: Ka hanga i ngā whetū katoa 9 o Matariki hei whārangi kōrero.
- Ākonga support needed: Ka mahi i runga i te pepa i tāia kē, me te awhina a te kaiako/kaiāwhina.
- Extension: Ka hanga he pānui mō ia whetū — ko wai te whetū, he aha tana mahi?
Activity 2: Waka o ngā Whetū (30 mins)
- He mahi-a-ringaringa e hanga ai ngā ākonga i te waka nuku-nuku (e tohu ana i te haerenga o ngā tīpuna).
- Ka whakamahi i te rākau me te raupō me ngā whetū pepa i hangaia i mua hei whakapaipai.
✔ Tuhinga o te Whetū (Optional Literacy): Mō ia whetū, ka kōrero te kaiako i te whakapapa me te mahi. He tauera kupu hei āwhina i te hunga kei te ako te reo.
✔ Non-verbal Student Support: Ka whiwhi pepa tino nui kia taea ai te whakaatu ā-tinana. Ka mahi i te taha o te kaiāwhina, ka whakamahi tohu ā-ringa hei tautoko.

Whakaatu Mahi me te Waiata-ā-Rōpū
- Ka whakaatu ngā ākonga i ā rātou whetū: “Ko tēnei whetū ko ___”
- Ka waiata tātou i te waiata "Ngā Whetū o Matariki" - he waiata nā te kaiako i whakarite mō ngā whetū e iwa.
- Ka tākaro kōrero: 'Kei hea a...? Kei konei a ___!' (Whakawhiti tohu me ngā whetū i runga i te papa)
Reflection Circle (Hei mutunga):
Kei te pai koe ki tēhea whetū? He aha i pēnā ai? (Awhina me ngā karu kanohi, ngā tohu me ngā mea pērā.)

- Rārangi kupu mō ngā hunga pānui-pōturi: Kupu e māramatia ana e ngā tauira ataata + pikitia. (Tauira: Matariki – whetū matua, Pōhutukawa – mahara ki te hunga mate)
