  • Station B: a bar graph and dot plot using local weather or community survey data. Students identify categories, scale intervals, mode, clusters and gaps where visible.
  • Station C: a stem-and-leaf plot, histogram and box plot using river-quality measurements or another locally relevant numerical dataset. Students read values and describe centre, spread, shape, median, quartiles and possible outliers without claiming causation.
  • Station D: a time-series graph and scatter plot using weather, river-quality or participation data. Students describe a trend or association only when it is visibly supported, noting that association does not establish cause.
  1. 40–50 min · Peer accuracy check. Students swap worksheets with a partner and use the checklist on the peer-checking slides to verify display names, units, scales, totals and contextual wording. Partners circle any value that cannot be located directly in the display and suggest a precise correction. Teacher circulates, asking, “Where is that supported?” and “What does the display allow us to conclude?”

  2. 50–56 min · Class discussion and perception challenge. Display one station graph with a changed scale, category grouping or graph type using the comparison and discussion slides. Students discuss how the change could affect perception while keeping the data unchanged. Invite examples of careful language: “The graph shows…”, “The highest recorded value was…”, “There appears to be…”, and “This display does not show whether…”

  3. 56–60 min · Exit ticket and review. Distribute the final section of the display-reading and station worksheet. Students interpret one supplied value and write one accurate in-context sentence, including the unit where relevant. Collect responses and ask students to self-rate their confidence from 1–5 on reading scales and describing displays.
