Overview

This final lesson consolidates learning from the Infrastructure Skills Development unit. Students retrieve key knowledge, evaluate their progress against practical and theoretical learning, and create a realistic personal pathway for further study or employment in the infrastructure industry.

Learning intentions

Lesson structure (120 minutes)

  1. 0–10 min · Course hook and purpose. Students complete a quick individual brainstorm of knowledge, practical skills, personal qualities and industry expectations they have developed.

  3. 30–50 min · Evidence review. Teacher distributes the course review and evidence worksheet and models one example using a previous project, practical task, plan, photograph or assessment response. Students select three significant pieces of evidence from their folders or digital work and record what each demonstrates about their knowledge, skills, decision-making or safe practice. Confer with students who list activities without explaining what they learned from them.

  4. 50–75 min · Team knowledge audit. Teacher displays the infrastructure knowledge audit instructions and places students in five groups of five. Each group receives one focus area: planning and project management; structural frameworks; materials and construction conventions; manufacturing and quality control; or health, safety and industry practice. Students create a concise audit on paper or a shared digital document: three key ideas, one common mistake, one practical example, and one question a new student might ask.   5. 75–100 min · Future pathway planning. Teacher introduces the future learning and industry pathways slides and briefly outlines possible next steps such as further Technology study, trades training, apprenticeships, site-based work experience, engineering or surveying pathways, and industry certifications. Students complete the six-part organiser in the extended response planning frame to plan a personal response: current strengths, skill gap, preferred pathway, action required, support or resource needed, and a review date. Students then complete the corresponding commitment section on their worksheet, ensuring the goal is specific, realistic and time-bound.

  6. 100–115 min · Peer conference and refinement. Teacher displays the peer conference questions and pairs students for a structured feedback conversation. Students explain their chosen pathway and ask, “What evidence supports this choice?”, “What is my first practical action?”, and “Who could help me?” Partners provide one affirmation and one useful suggestion. Students revise their action plan, including a measurable outcome and a date for checking progress.

  7. 115–120 min · Exit reflection and close. Teacher displays the plenary and exit prompt and asks students to complete the final section of the course review and evidence worksheet before collecting it. Students write: one concept they can now explain confidently, one skill they still need to strengthen, and one action they will take within the next month. Invite two or three volunteers to share a constructive next step.
