The Great Embrace
In the beginning, Ranginui and Papatuanuku were locked in an eternal embrace, holding each other so tightly that there was no light or space between them.

Ranginui and Papatuanuku had many children They were the atua - powerful gods of nature Trapped in darkness between their parents Could not move, grow, or see light
