📚 Part 1: Journey Calculations

Learning Intention (LI): We will calculate total distance, time, fuel use and cost for a journey. Achievement Objective (AO): Number and Algebra — use additive and multiplicative strategies. Success criteria: I can add distances, use speed = distance ÷ time, and calculate cost using unit rates. Values: kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga.

Journey strip:

Distances: A→B = 12 km, B→C = 8 km, C→D = 15 km. Car fuel use = 7.5 L per 100 km. Fuel price = $2.50 per litre. Average speed = 60 km/h.

2. How long (hours and minutes) will the trip take if the average speed is 60 km/h? Show your working.

3. How many litres of fuel will the trip use? (Use 7.5 L per 100 km)

4. How much will the fuel cost for the trip? Show calculation and give answer in dollars ($).

5. A stop is made halfway between B and C. How far is this stop from A (in kilometres)?
