Measuring Length in Metres

Help plan a mini-garden path. Use 1 metre = 100 centimetres. Estimate when asked, and write units with every measurement.

Think about which lengths are small and which are long.

1.Maia wants to measure the length of a pencil. Which tool is the best choice, and which unit will she most likely record?

2.Circle the more sensible estimate for the length of a classroom door: 2 m or 2 cm. Explain why.

Build the path plan

The path is made from three straight sections. Follow the measurements carefully.

4.The first section is 120 cm and the second section is 80 cm. What is their total length in centimetres?

5.The two sections together make 2 metres. Is this equal to 200 centimetres? Write true or false and give a reason.

Measure, draw and explain

9.Look around where you are. Choose one object that is shorter than 1 metre and one that is longer than 1 metre. Name each and estimate its length, including units.
