Perimeter

Perimeter is the total distance around the outside of a shape.

1.A rectangular sign is 9.4 cm long and 3.6 cm wide. What is its perimeter?

2.A five-sided panel has side lengths 4.8 cm, 3.7 cm, 5.2 cm, 2.8 cm and 6.4 cm. Find its perimeter.

3.A square tile has sides that are each 6.75 cm long. Calculate its perimeter.

4.A path beside a bus stop has edge lengths of 12 m, 8 m, 12 m and 8 m. What is its perimeter?

Area

For a rectangle, area = length × width. Area is measured in square units.

5.A rectangular noticeboard is 8 m long and 7 m wide. What is its area?

6.A square coaster has side lengths of 8.2 cm. What is its area?

7.A rectangular panel has an area of 63 cm² and a width of 7 cm. Find its length.

8.Rectangle A measures 5 cm by 7 cm. Rectangle B measures 4 cm by 8 cm. Calculate each area and state whether they are equal.

Grid Areas and Comparing Shapes

Each small grid square in the questions below has an area of 1 cm².

9.A shape covers 13 full grid squares and 6 half-squares. What is its area?

10.Another shape covers 9 full grid squares and 8 half-squares. Work out its area. Show how the half-squares contribute.

11.Shape A is a rectangle measuring 3 cm by 8 cm. Shape B is a square with 5.5 cm sides. Find the perimeter and area of each shape. What do you notice about the results?
