Lesson Structure

Warm-Up (5 minutes)

    • 3 minutes of dynamic stretches (leg swings, arm circles, high knees) to prepare muscles.
  2. Introduction (1 minute):

Skill Development (15 minutes)

  1. Demonstration (2 minutes):

    • Explain the context and timing of each move.
  2. Practice Stations (10 minutes):

    • Set up three stations, each focusing on one dribbling technique.
    • Station 1: Step-overs
      • Students practise step-overs in pairs, one defenders and one dribbling.
    • Station 2: Cruyff Turn
      • Use cones as markers for students to dribble towards, perform a Cruyff turn, and speed off in the opposite direction.
    • Station 3: Nutmeg Dribble
      • Set up a small goal with cones; students will have to dribble the ball through the defender's legs.
  3. Rotation (3 minutes):

    • Every 3 minutes, whistle to signal students to rotate to the next station.

Game Situation (7 minutes)

  1. Small-Sided Games (both practices):

    • Set up a small pitch with goals.
    • Each game lasts 2 minutes where students must employ their newly practised advanced dribbling techniques to create scoring opportunities.
  2. Strategies:

    • Encourage players to communicate and provide feedback to each other.
    • Emphasise the importance of using space and timing their moves effectively.

Cool Down (3 minutes)

  1. Slow Jog and Static Stretching:
    • Light jog around the pitch, followed by static stretches focusing on legs and lower back (quadriceps, hamstrings, calves).

Reflection and Assessment (2 minutes)

  1. Feedback Discussion:
    • Gather students in a circle; ask:
      • What did you learn about dribbling techniques?
      • How did you feel applying these techniques in games?
    • Provide constructive feedback based on their performance and experiences.

Adaptations

  • For advanced learners: Introduce more complex moves and encourage them to integrate their skills into game play.
  • For struggling learners: Pair them with stronger students to support and build confidence through peer collaboration.

Assessment

  • Observe students' use of dribbling techniques in small games, noting their ability to evade defenders and create space.
  • Use peer feedback and self-reflection to evaluate their understanding and performance.

By structuring the lesson to include practice, game situations, and feedback, students will master advanced dribbling techniques in an engaging, supportive environment.
