Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

Lesson Structure

Introduction (10 minutes)

1. Warm-Up Activity:

   • Start with a brief icebreaker. Ask students to share one thing they feel is important in healthcare. Write these on the whiteboard.

2. Objective Overview:

   • Introduce the lesson objectives and relevance of collaborative care in the NHS.

Main Activities (40 minutes)

Activity 1: Concept Exploration (15 minutes)

1. Video Presentation:

   • Show a short video clip illustrating collaborative care in action.

2. Class Discussion:

   • Facilitate a discussion following the video. Prompt questions:
     • What stood out to you?
     • Why do you think teamwork is important in healthcare?
     • Can you name some of the professionals involved in patient care?

Activity 2: Role Play (25 minutes)

1. Role Assignment:

   • Divide students into groups of 4 (with 2 roles in each). Each group gets printed role cards.

2. Scenario Development:

   • Each group creates a brief patient care scenario that involves at least three different healthcare professionals. Encourage creativity and realism.

3. Role Play Presentation:

   • Groups present their scenarios to the class. After each presentation, open the floor for a quick discussion on how teamwork was showcased.

Conclusion (10 minutes)

1. Reflection:

   • Hand out sticky notes. Ask each student to write one takeaway from the lesson on a sticky note and place it on the whiteboard.

2. Summary:

   • Recap the key points discussed during the lesson. Reinforce the significance of collaboration in healthcare and how it improves patient outcomes.

3. Homework Assignment:

   • Instruct students to research one specific healthcare professional's role involved in collaborative care and prepare a brief summary for the next lesson.
