Lesson Structure

1. Starter Activity: What is Computing? (10 minutes)

  • Pose the question on the board: “What is computing?”
  • Invite pupils to shout out ideas or raise hands to share what they think computing means.
  • Teachers to write key words on board (e.g. computers, tablets, games, programming, internet, technology).
  • Explain that computing is how we use technology and machines to solve problems, communicate and have fun.

    • Devices they do not use but know about

  • Hand out “My Technology Diary” worksheet (simple table format).

  • For pupils with writing difficulties, allow drawings and key word labelling.
