Lesson Outline
1. Introduction (10 minutes)
Engaging Starter - “7 Step Hop”
- Teacher introduces a story: "We’re going on a number adventure with steps of 7. Imagine stepping on stones in a river, but you only jump forward by 7 stones each time!"
- Model counting out loud with whole class: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 … then ask pupils to join in counting from zero to 70.
- Change starting points: “Now let’s start at 5. What's the next number if we count on 7 from 5?” Pupils count together: 12, 19, 26…
Key Teaching Point: Explain how counting on in 7s means starting from a number and repeatedly adding 7.
Targeted Whole Class Questions (using Bloom’s Taxonomy):
- Remembering: What is 7 more than 35?
- Understanding: Can you explain why 21 comes after 14 when counting by 7s?
