  • Activity: Students pair up and discuss briefly an interesting news event they heard or read about recently, focusing on summarising the main points.
  • Purpose: To engage students and set the theme for summarising news events.

2. Real-Life Communication Contexts (15 minutes)

• Group Discussion:
  • Scenario Setup: Divide students into small groups. Each group is given a real-life scenario common in UK society (e.g., planning a community event, discussing climate change policy).
  • Task: Groups must discuss and present a summary of their scenario's main points, focusing on clarity and conciseness.
  • Focus: Encourage the use of persuasive language and structured arguments.

3. Simulated Classroom Interviews (20 minutes)

• Pairs Activity:
  • Setup: Create a mock interview scenario where students must interview each other for a leadership role in a school society or club.
  • Task: Each student plays both the interviewer and the interviewee.
  • Guidelines: Provide students with a list of key points they need to summarise from their interviews (e.g., skills required, challenges, objectives).
