This lesson aims to enable Year 3 students to understand how different natural resources are used as fuels. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and enquiry, students will explore a variety of natural resources, learning their origins, characteristics, and uses in everyday life.

Lesson Structure

1. Introduction & Activation (5 minutes)

  • Begin with a quick “energy brainstorm” - ask students what fuels they know and how they use fuel in daily life (e.g., cooking, heating).
  • Show images of different natural resource fuels (coal, wood, wind turbines, solar panels, oil rigs).
  • Pose the question: Where do these fuels come from, and how do people use them?

2. Group Practical Activity: Fuel Sorting & Exploration (15 minutes)
