Lesson Structure
1. Introduction (5 minutes)
Objective: Introduce grouping with clear, simple examples.

- Ask: "Can we put these counters into smaller groups? What groups can we make?"
- Model grouping all the same coloured counters together – e.g., “Here are 5 red counters, here are 3 blue counters.”

Objective: Scaffold through hands-on group sorting and counting.

- Task: "Can you place these buttons into 2 groups? How many are in each group?"
- Encourage children to work together, counting objects in each group and recording the number on a number card or on paper.

- Have 3 children come to the front and show their own grouping of objects, counting aloud.

Differentiation
- Lower ability: Use smaller numbers (up to 5), one-to-one object counting, supported group work.
