Lifespan Quiz Review

Overview

This lesson is Lesson 9 of 20 in the Year 12 PSHE Unit Plan. Students will review Unit 1 learning through a structured quiz and reflective discussion to check understanding and address gaps.

Learning intentions

• WALT review key PSHE concepts from Unit 1 and apply them to realistic scenarios.
• Students will be able to explain how wellbeing, relationships, and health choices can change across the lifespan.
• Students will be able to evaluate information, distinguish facts from opinion, and justify answers respectfully.

Success criteria

• I can answer quiz questions accurately using knowledge from Unit 1.
• I can explain my reasoning for at least two answers using clear, specific examples.
• I can identify at least one gap in my understanding and a next step to improve.

Curriculum links

• Understanding of health and wellbeing: the factors that affect wellbeing and how to make informed choices.

Lesson structure (60 minutes)

1. 0–5 min: WALT & warm-up

• Display the lesson aims and remind students the quiz is for learning, not just marks.
• Quick warm-up: “One thing I remember clearly from Unit 1 is…”

2. 5–15 min: Quiz briefing and groups

• Set expectations for teamwork, respectful talk, and explaining reasoning.
• Arrange students into mixed-ability groups of 4–5 and assign roles (reader, timekeeper, checker, spokesperson).

3. 15–35 min: Lifespan Quiz Round 1 (individual first)

• Students complete a short set of questions individually (multiple choice and short-answer).
• Teacher collects common misconceptions by circulating and noting patterns rather than correcting immediately.

4. 35–48 min: Lifespan Quiz Round 2 (group reasoning)

• Groups re-answer using discussion, then provide a brief justification for selected questions.
• Teacher leads a class debrief after key items: “What made this answer correct?” and “What thinking led others to different choices?”

5. 48–55 min: Targeted feedback and mini reteach

• Based on quiz results, teacher selects 2–3 topics for a quick reteach using a clear explanation plus one example scenario.
• Students write a one-sentence “correct understanding” statement for each topic.

6. 55–60 min: Exit reflection

• Students complete an exit prompt: “My biggest learning from this quiz is…” and “Next time, I will…”.
• Teacher checks attendance and quickly scans for misconceptions to plan future lessons.

• Printed quiz sheets or a classroom quiz format (e.g., paper-based or offline slides)
• Question set covering Unit 1 lifespan concepts (wellbeing, factors affecting health, relationships across life stages)
• Answer sheet or teacher key (for marking and feedback)

Assessment

• Formative assessment through quiz responses and teacher observation of group reasoning.
• Targeted feedback using identified misconceptions from Round 1 and Round 2.
• Exit reflection confirms students’ next-step goals and highlights remaining gaps.

Differentiation

• Support: provide a word bank for key terms (e.g., wellbeing, support services, healthy boundaries) and sentence starters for justifications.
• Support: offer dyslexia-friendly quiz copy (larger font, increased spacing) and allow audio/text-to-speech where available.
• Support: allow “think-pair-share” before group answers; teacher checks understanding during circulation.
• Extension: require advanced learners to write a short justification using evaluation language (e.g., “because… however… therefore…”), and to spot which option is most appropriate when multiple answers seem plausible.
• EAL: provide bilingual support where possible via peer buddies; use simplified question stems and clarify unfamiliar wording orally before starting.
• SEN: reduce number of questions for those needing scaffolding, while ensuring coverage of the core lifespan concepts; use chunked sections with short time targets.
