1. Adding Fractions:

     • Add the numerators: 1 + 2 = 3
     • Keep the denominator the same: 3/4.

2. Subtracting Fractions:

   • Transition into subtraction with another example (e.g., 3/4 - 1/4).
   • Show steps on the whiteboard as well:
     • Subtract the numerators: 3 - 1 = 2
     • Keep the denominator the same: 2/4 (simplify to 1/2 if time allows).

Part 2: Group Work (15 minutes)

• Practical Fractions Activity:
  • Divide the class into groups of 4, with 2 groups working on addition and 2 on subtraction.
  • Using the liquid: Fill cups with equal portions of water that represent fractions (e.g., 1/4 cup, 2/4 cup). Students will combine them to find total amounts (1/4 + 2/4).
  • Each group will explore 3 different combinations using different starting fractions.

Plenary (10 minutes)
