Lesson Objectives

By the end of this 30-minute lesson, students will be able to:

1. Accurately form the past tense with avoir and être.
2. Apply past participle agreement for number and gender.
3. Conjugate and correctly use key verbs (arriver, aller, partir, rester) in the past tense.
4. Pronounce French phonemes [a], è, and ê correctly.

Lesson Breakdown (30 Minutes)

1. Warm-Up (5 mins) – “Time Travel Brainstorm” 🌍🕰️

• Step 1: Explain the Perfect Tense Structure
  • Write two example sentences on the board:
    • J’ai mangé une pizza (I ate…)
    • Je suis allé(e) au cinéma (I went…)
  • Highlight avoir vs être and past participle agreement.
• Step 2: Introduce Key Verbs
  • Display four key verbs: arriver, aller, partir, rester.
  • Ask students to identify a pattern (être verbs – movement/staying).

    • arriver (a)
