Lesson Structure

1. Starter Activity: Think-Pair-Share (10 minutes)

  • Pupils physically examine and describe texture, flexibility, weight, and durability of materials like fabric, cardboard, plastic straws, and wood sticks.
  • Record observations linked to torch design suitability on a worksheet.

Station 3: Design Discussion

  • Pupils brainstorm how the tested materials could be used in their torch design.
  • Consider factors such as safety (insulators around wires), durability, and aesthetics.

4. Group Reflection and Discussion (10 minutes)

  • Each group shares key findings from their stations.
  • Class discussion guided by teacher on why certain materials are best suited for torch construction.

5. Plenary: Quick Quiz and Exit Ticket (5 minutes)
