Lesson Outline

1. Starter (5 minutes)

• Activity: Quick class discussion on key points to include when presenting a product (e.g., what it is, how it helps the environment, why people should care).
• Purpose: Activate prior knowledge of communication and sustainability from previous lessons.
• Teacher lists key presentation tips on the board.

2. Main Activity Part 1: Presentation Practice (20 minutes)

• Activity:

  • Students pair up or form small groups to rehearse their presentations using their products.
  • Encourage students to cover: product description, materials used, environmental benefits, and why the community should care.
  • Teachers and support staff circulate to provide constructive feedback focusing on clarity, confidence, and content.
  • Students then revise their presentations based on feedback.

• Differentiation:

  • For students with speech difficulties or anxiety, offer use of cue cards or allow pair presentations.
  • Provide sentence starters or ‘key phrase’ lists for those who need language support.

• Assessment:

  • Teacher observes and notes students’ communication skills and understanding of sustainability concepts during rehearsal.

3. Main Activity Part 2: Extension – Promotional Materials (10 minutes)

• Activity:

  • Advanced learners create a promotional flyer/poster for their product to display at the community showcase.
  • Encourage creative use of persuasive language, drawings, and clear information.
  • Share examples of effective promotional materials from previous projects or simplified adverts.

• Differentiation:

  • Students who find this challenging can sketch a simple label or product tag instead.

4. Plenary: Group Reflection and Feedback (10 minutes)

• Activity:

  • Groups share one presentation highlight and one improvement based on feedback.
  • Whole class reflects on what makes an effective presentation and how communication can impact community engagement.

• Success check:

  • Use a simple thumbs-up, thumbs-sideways, thumbs-down to self-assess confidence for the upcoming showcase.
