This 30-minute lesson introduces Year 8 students to the life and early influences of Steven Spielberg, highlighting how his childhood experiences shaped his innovative filmmaking. Lesson Structure

Invite pairs to share their chosen influences and reasons. Record these on the whiteboard in two columns: “Early Life Events” and “Filmmaking Innovations”.
Introduce the idea of ‘innovation’ using Spielberg’s use of special effects or storytelling techniques.
Show a brief clip demonstrating an innovative filmmaking technique.
