The Role of Religious Communities
Discuss how religious communities:
- Offer emotional and spiritual guidance.
- Provide charity work, such as food banks, shelter, and disaster relief.

- Encourage kindness and care for others.
Show images of different religious communities in the UK engaged in community work. Allow students to discuss what they see.
3. Group Activity (20 minutes)
Mind Map: ‘How Religious Communities Help Others’
- Divide students into small groups. Give each group a large sheet of paper and markers.
- In the centre, they write "Religious Communities Helping Others."
- Students brainstorm and draw ways religious groups support their members and the wider community (e.g., donating food, visiting the sick, offering shelter, providing friendship and advice).
- Each group presents their mind map to the class, explaining their ideas.
Encourage creative thinking by allowing them to illustrate their mind maps with drawings, speech bubbles, or symbols.
4. Reflection & Plenary (15 minutes)
-
Class Discussion:
- "Why do you think religious communities help people?"
- "Can you think of a time when someone helped you? How did it make you feel?"
-
Exit Ticket Activity:
- On a sticky note or small card, each student writes one way they can help their own community this week (e.g., being kind to a new classmate, helping at home).
- Place these on a "Kindness Wall" in the classroom.
-
