Electricity and Circuits in Everyday Life

Understanding how electricity powers our world Exploring simple circuits Year 3 Science

Slide 2

What Uses Electricity in Your Home?

Think about your morning routine What did you switch on? How many electrical things can you name?

3
Slide 3

What is Electricity?

A type of energy that can move through wires Made up of tiny particles called electrons Electrons flow like water through pipes We cannot see electricity, but we can see what it does

5
Slide 5

What is a Circuit?

A complete path for electricity to flow Like a circle or loop Electricity must have a way to go out AND come back If the path is broken, electricity stops flowing

6
Slide 6

Build a Simple Circuit

You will need: battery, wire, small light bulb Connect the wire from battery to bulb and back Make sure there are no gaps in your circle What happens when you disconnect a wire?

7
Slide 7

Complete vs Broken Circuits

{"left":"Complete Circuit: Electricity flows all the way around\nLight bulb glows brightly\nAll connections are secure\nNo gaps in the wire path","right":"Broken Circuit: Gap somewhere in the path\nElectricity cannot flow\nLight bulb does not work\nSwitch in OFF position creates a gap"}

Remember This!

Electricity needs a complete path to flow Just like water needs pipes, electricity needs wires Switches control electricity by making or breaking the circuit
