Finding Volume: Cubes and Cuboids
Year 5 Mathematics Exploring 3D Shapes and Space

What is Volume?
Volume is the amount of space inside a 3D shape We measure volume in cubic units Think of it like filling a box with small cubes Volume tells us how much something can hold

Volume of a Cube
A cube has all sides the same length Volume = length × length × length Or we can write: Volume = side³ Example: If each side is 3cm, volume = 3 × 3 × 3 = 27 cubic cm

Volume of a Cuboid
A cuboid has rectangular faces Volume = length × width × height The three measurements can be different Example: 4cm × 2cm × 3cm = 24 cubic cm
