Success criteria

I can use the words then, now, old and new when I talk about seaside holidays.

I can spot at least three ways seaside holidays were different in the past.

I can draw or write about a seaside activity using historical words.

Differentiation strategies

EAL / SEND: Use the vocabulary mat, picture prompts and sentence starters: "In the past, people ______." / "Now people ______."

Higher ability: Explain why things changed and use extra historical words from the vocabulary mat.

Vocabulary mat

Past — a long time ago; think old photographs.

Present — now; what we see today at the seaside.

Old — from long ago; e.g. bathing machines, long dresses.

New — recent or modern; e.g. colourful ice‑cream vans, paddle boards.

Same — not different; e.g. people still enjoy the sea.

Different — not the same; e.g. clothes, transport, games.

Timeline — ordering events from then to now.

Seaside — the area by the sea where people have holidays.
