Step 1: Take away chunks of 4 × 10 = 40

Step 3: 4 ÷ 4 = 1. Answer: 10 + 10 + 1 = 21

Example 2: 126 ÷ 3 using place-value

Step 1: 120 ÷ 3 = 40 (12 tens ÷ 3 = 4 tens)
