Representing Tenths Physically

At an orchard packing shed, Arjun, Grace and Isla are sorting fruit. Use the tenths strips and number lines to show, name and compare tenths. Write fractions with a denominator of 10 where appropriate.

Build and read tenths

Think of each whole strip as divided into 10 equal parts. Each part is one tenth, or 0.1 of the whole.

1.A paper strip is divided into 10 equal parts. Grace colours 4 parts. Which amount has she coloured?

2.Arjun uses 7 tenths of a strip to measure a crate label. Write seven tenths as a fraction and as a decimal.
