📚 Understanding Clauses

What is a clause? A clause is a group of words that contains a subject (who or what) and a verb (action word).

Independent clause: A complete thought that can stand alone as a sentence.
Example: The dog barked loudly.

Dependent clause: An incomplete thought that needs an independent clause to make sense. It often starts with words like because, when, if, although, since.
Example: Because it was raining (What happened because it was raining?)

Complex sentence: An independent clause + a dependent clause joined together.
Example: We stayed inside because it was raining.
