📖 Reading Passage: Dinosaur Diversity

Dinosaurs lived on Earth for over 165 million years, from the Triassic Period (252 million years ago) through to the Cretaceous Period (66 million years ago). During this time, they evolved into an incredible variety of forms. Some dinosaurs were massive herbivores like Brachiosaurus, which could reach 26 metres in length and weigh up to 80 tonnes. Others were fierce carnivores like Tyrannosaurus rex, with teeth up to 20 centimetres long.

Not all dinosaurs were giants. Compsognathus was only about 60 centimetres long and weighed just 3 kilograms. Some dinosaurs had elaborate crests and horns, like Triceratops, while others developed feathers for display or warmth. Scientists have discovered over 1,000 different dinosaur species, and new ones are found regularly in places like Queensland's dinosaur trail.
