Equivalent Fractions: 10 and 100
Part A: Convert to tenths
Remember: Whatever you do to the denominator, you must do to the numerator.
Worked examples: 3/5 = 6/10 because 5 × 2 = 10 and 3 × 2 = 6.
1/2 = 5/10 because 2 × 5 = 10 and 1 × 5 = 5.
Part B: Convert to hundredths
First identify the multiplier needed to reach 100. Then multiply the numerator by the same number.
Worked examples: 3/20 = 15/100 because 20 × 5 = 100 and 3 × 5 = 15.
4/25 = 16/100 because 25 × 4 = 100 and 4 × 4 = 16.
7/50 = 14/100 because 50 × 2 = 100 and 7 × 2 = 14.
Answer key
1–8: 5/10, 4/10, 8/10, 15/10, 6/10, 10/10, multiplier 2 and 8/10, multiplier 5 and 15/10.
11–19: 5 and 10/100; 4 and 24/100; 2 and 18/100; 15/100; 32/100; 22/100; 7/20; 7/25; 9/50.
20: Yes. 20 × 5 = 100 and 6 × 5 = 30, so 6/20 = 30/100, not 24/100.
