📚 Part 1: Fraction Basics

A fraction shows equal parts of a whole or a collection. The bottom number is the denominator. It tells us how many equal parts there are. The top number is the numerator. It tells us how many parts we have.

For example, in 3/4, the whole is divided into 4 equal parts and 3 parts are being counted.

Half means 1 out of 2 equal parts: 1/2. Quarter means 1 out of 4 equal parts: 1/4.

✏️ Part 2: Sharing and Working Out Fractions

To find a fraction of a collection, divide the total number of objects by the denominator. Then count the number of groups shown by the numerator.

Example: To find 1/2 of 8, divide 8 into 2 equal groups. Each group has 4, so 1/2 of 8 is 4.
