Jack's Big Adventure

In 1851, young Jack Thompson lived on a small farm in Melbourne with his family. Life was hard, and money was scarce. Then one day, exciting news spread like wildfire through the town - gold had been discovered in Ballarat!

"We're going to the goldfields!" announced Jack's father. Within weeks, thousands of people began their migration to the gold discovery sites. The great Australian Gold Rush had begun!

Jack and his family joined the massive crowds heading to Ballarat. The journey was tough, but their hopes were high. When they arrived, Jack couldn't believe his eyes. The once-quiet countryside was now a bustling goldfield filled with tents, makeshift shops, and hundreds of diggers working day and night.

Jack's father taught him about prospecting - the careful search for gold in rivers and soil. They used simple tools like pans and sieves to search for the precious metal. Some days they found tiny flakes of gold, other days nothing at all.
