Penelope Character Traits Worksheet

Read the story. Then answer the questions. A character trait is a word that describes what someone is like. Look for clues in what Penelope says and does.

Meet Penelope

Penelope and the Lost Chess Clock Penelope the pygmy possum liked to know how things worked. At the community chess tournament, she peeped at the chess pieces and asked, “Why does the knight move in an L shape?” Just before the final game, Omar noticed the chess clock was missing. Without it, the players could not start. Penelope remembered seeing a small wooden box near the sign-in table. She felt a little nervous, but she went to check. The box was empty. Then Penelope heard a faint ticking sound behind a stack of chairs. She carefully moved the chairs and found the clock, still working. It had slipped off the table. Penelope carried it back with both paws. “Thank you for looking,” said Omar. “You saved our game!” Penelope smiled. She was pleased that asking questions and looking carefully had helped everyone enjoy the tournament.
