Uncle Xbox Personal Connections

Read the original story. Then use clues from the story and your own experiences to explain how you connect with the characters. You may choose a different personal example from the model answers.

Uncle Xbox

When Uncle Jai visited, he brought his old game console in a bright blue bag. “I used to play this with your mum,” he said. “I wonder if I still remember how.” Sienna was keen to start a game straight away, but her cousin Anh wanted to show Uncle Jai the new game he had made up. Sienna sighed. She had been looking forward to beating her best score. Uncle Jai listened as Anh explained the rules. Then he asked Sienna to help him learn the controls. Soon, the three of them were taking turns. Uncle Jai kept pressing the wrong button, and everyone burst out laughing—including Uncle Jai. When the game ended, Sienna had not beaten her best score. Still, she felt pleased. Uncle Jai had learnt something new, Anh had shared his game, and they had all enjoyed playing together. “Next time,” Sienna said, “you can teach me one of your old games.”
